About Yoga

YOGA

Yoga is both ancient and modern. Yoga is both a ‘state’ and a means to attaining it. At the heart of all styles and approaches to yoga is the recognition that we are more than just a body and a collection of thoughts in the mind. The practice of yoga helps us to transcend the physical and mental limitations and come to a state of simply being one’s true self.

Ancient Yogis had a belief that in order for man to be in harmony with himself and his environment, he has to integrate the body, the mind, and the spirit. For these three to be integrated, emotion, action, and intelligence must be in balance. The Yogis formulated a way to achieve and maintain this balance through exercise, breathing, and meditation – the three main Yoga structures in practice.

In Yoga, the body is treated with care and respect for it is the primary instrument in man’s work and growth. Yoga Exercises improve circulation, stimulate the abdominal organs, and put pressure on the glandular system of the body, which can generally result to better health.

Throughout an entire yoga practice, you engage, breathe, lengthen, release, and repeat in order to transition from Asana (pose) to Asana. Each of these movements help build both physical strength in your body as well as the mental strength which is required to consciously flow from one Asana to another with present moment and full body awareness. Breathing techniques were developed based on the concept that breath is the source of life. In Yoga, students gain breathing control as they slowly increase their breathing techniques. By focusing on their breathing, they prepare their minds for the next step – Meditation. At Breeze we focus on more a restorative & yin style of yoga. These are both gentle practices. All levels welcome, 14 years old & over.
